Loring Job Corps Center

Robert Swan brings five years of experience with OPCMIA Local 534 to his position as a Cement Mason Instructor at the Loring Job Corps Center. “Growing up in a region of New Hampshire with a heavy concentration of concrete contractors, I have been traveling all over New England pouring and finishing concrete from a young age,” he said. “As my career has progressed and led me into work as a union finisher, I have seen fewer and fewer young people choosing this trade. As a cement mason in the field, I always took great satisfaction in helping those people who were just getting their start in the trade and mentoring those who were eager to learn. It became very clear to me the future of the trade is dependent on new young people coming into the trade. Working at Loring Job Corps now gives me that opportunity to not only pass down my trade but also build and strengthen the field of cement masonry for the future. I am both excited to be part of such an important organization as well as to hopefully instill that same excitement in the students here in northern Maine.”
